that came to puerto rico. puerto rico was owned by britain, as they liked to do with their colonies, and efficient evidently the sailor came there and said palm trees, warm weather, and look at the girls. and he remained. that's the end of the second part. the third part is in response to the op ed piece that margaret mcpeek wrote in the chronicle and the letters, i don't know if you've read them -- you should pick up -- the letters that a couple of, you know, irish americans wrote in response accusing cousin mcpeek of not having a sense of humor. it has to do with these tee shirts that target has produced for the st. patrick's day parade in which mrs. mcpeek derided the fact that they were making fun of the irish in the united states, you know, things like i survived the kelly murphy family gathering, things like that. and they wrote letters poking fun at what i thought was a couragous op ed piece. so this is in response to the irish americans who don't feel the pride that they should. and please excuse if i manhandle the irish manner of speaking. this is a joke told to me by one

-you to linda brooks burton. [applause] because linda brooks britain last march invited me to plan this program, and i want to thank helen, who i work with in san francisco unified because she introduced me to bryonn bain, and she always introduces me to the various artists that come in to work in the school district. as i learned about bryonn and experienced his presence and i was thinking about putting together this program, it just clicked -- why not bring the two together to bring this link from the past unsegregated jim crow to what is happening in the 21st century and that has been happening? i think i was inspired by michele alexander's booke." >> it is my pleasure to say, ms. colvin, without you we would not be where we are. [applause] thank you for sharing your story, and keep telling your story because we need to know, and our children need to know, and our children's children need to know your story. and we want to thank our sponsors today. we have the san francisco unified school district. we have marked as bookstores, who will be selling this -- ms. colvin's book, written about her

% and down to great britain to 2% and the u.s. only has 1% trip share by bike. advantages and the benefits of cycling, very short but, which you can capitalize is the health part, the reduction of health costs because the effect of cycling on health are above expectations. it's nearly all diseases will have less risk of occurring when people have enough physical exercise and all the extra, the ideal means of physical exercise is about half an hour a day, medium-intensive exercise. so it's far better than going to the gym twice a week and then, very intensive sporting for two hours. and what is easier than having this bike trip into your daily commuting? then automatically you have your half an hour exercise and it's been shown in the managementerlands that people who sigh -- netherlands that people who cycle to work have more than people who don't. also the environment there are a lot of things you can capitalize because you don't have to invest on electric cars or transit or whatever to reduce the carbon dioxide, because the emissions of bicycle is zero. there is a huge problem in the u.s

that. in great britain, they are going to have all community schools. it's what my colleague, jim dierck, is doing. we need to turn every school into a community school. i had a fabulous opportunity to visit this school. it's for kids who have failed in every way. it's colead by the cb on. they do the counseling. vocational work. the district is the class teaching. they have somebody at their side all the time to help with the needs of the student and the principle and cbo get up and meet every morning. they were total partners in making this a community school. then i will be through. i had the opportunity to go to another school at 9 o'clock at night where i thought it was going to be closed. i walk into the school in upper manhattan and it is lit up like a christmas tree. we have to light up every school. it changed the whole neighborhood. it was a beacon of wonderfulness. it was full of activity. of young people. parents. esl. everything. i got so excited about the potential could be. and it changed the neighborhood and young people. if you want to talk about safety. i think

california register eligible pacific heights historic district, between britain jackson street -- greenwich and jackson streets. in 2007, the senior planner wrote the inquiry on 2626 filbert street, which i came before you on. it is three blocks from edward ii. this is him. it is true that the building is not within a designated historic district, but the area falls within an area which we found to be a potential historic district, which would qualify as a historic resourced for the ceqa guidelines. we have not established boundaries of what the potential district, but it is a flag for us to the parties in this area extra scrutiny. in 2008, regarding the 2626 filbert case, the potentially california registered eligible district is roughly located between greenwich and a jackson street and lyon and steiner streets. this abuts the property in question. in the july 7, 2011 exhibit a pmnd, planning staff determined that the proposed group housing project would not result in any impact to adjacent historic resources. yet the project site adjoins the prodigious california register pacific heights

the -- britain upped the outside without it having be so different from what is there now. i totally agree. you can do a lot of good by bringing in some sort of a food service and i can think of a lot of different firms that are san francisco and owned in base. that would bring people in to the area. just because it is time to eat and they decide to do some shopping also. with the parking you have, it would be a selling point to bring people in. even when they not -- might not be coming anyway. >> commissioner moore: i wanted to make a comment about target not using a higher percentage of parking for themselves. through them making a commitment to better parking for all, that is a very strong element and shows a commitment which i like. i hope that targets, including the architect, seize our comment more as a positive -- sees our comment more of a positive. there -- this department and this commission will be in dialogue and make this a win-win for all. do not see it as a put down. rather and encouragement. >> on the motion to approve. commissioner antonini, -- that passes in an announcemenunan
